Lieutenant Jesse Amburgey

Jesse Amburgy was born in Castlewood, Russell County, Virginia in 1822. He was the son of Robert Amburgy and Elizabeth Posey Fuller. By 1827 his family had moved to Hazard in Perry County, Kentucky. In 1843 he married our cousin Rachel B. Cornett of Perry County. Together they had nine children.

He joined the 5th Kentucky Mountain Infantry (CSA) on November 1, 1861 at Pound Gap, Virginia. He resigned on April 14, 1862 in Lebanon, Virginia. was described as being 6' tall, of light complexion, with black eyes and auburn hair. He received a medical discharge in March 1863.
