Corporal Robert E. Amburgey
8th Kentucky Infantry Regiment
1843 -


Robert E. Amburgey was born in 1842 in Kentucky. He was the son of Alfred Amburgey and Mary Haggins. He left Perry County and settled on Miller's Creek in Estill County as a farm laborer. Robert enlisted in the 8th Kentucky Infantry (USA) on October 7, 1861, and mustered in in Lebanon on January 15, 1862. He was hospitalized in Louisville and subsequently discharged on May 19, 1862. He was described as being 5'8" tall and having a light complexion, light hair, and hazel eyes. Ironically, his father and brother enlisted in the 13th Kentucky Cavalry (CSA)

In 1867 he married Mary E. Grant and they had eight children. In 1878 he was found in Stanton in Powell County as a farmer. In 1881 he was in Winchester.
