Private Robert Amburgey

Robert (Rubin) Amburgy was born in Castlewood, Russell County, Virginia in 1827. He was the son of William Amburgy, a veteran of the War of 1812. He married Lettie Adams of Carr Creek in 1846. In 1842 he was farming on Carr Creek in Letcher County. He moved to Miller's Creek in Estill County after 1850 and farmed there. He and Lettie had nine children.

He joined the 8th Kentucky Infantry (USA) on January 15, 1861. He was described as being 6' tall, of light complexion, with black eyes and auburn hair. He received a medical discharge in March 1863.
