Private William Amburgey
Captain Ambrose Calton Co, 5th NC Detached Militia
1788-1873
William Amburgey was born on September 11, 1788 in the Roaring River Community of Wilkes County, NC. He married Lucy Franklin on February 17, 1811. In February of 1814, he enlisted in Captain Ambrose Calton's Company of the 5th North Carolina Detached Militia. He was discharged on March 9, 1815, and is sen again on the muster roll on June 10, 1817 in Wilksboro.
He departed North Carolina after the war and farmed in Castlewood, Virgina. Later he joined his kin in Kentucky and lived at Carr's Fork. Lucy and William had seven children. He died on March 7, 1873.
