Archibald Cornett was born in Kentucky, the son of William and Rhoda Gilliam Cornett. He enrolled in the Kentucky Volunteer Infantry and fought in the War of 1812 with General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and New Orleans
