Name:"Son of John", of Scottish origin. The surname was recorded in Lincolnshire where they had been granted lands by Duke William upon his conquest of England in 1066

History:Our link to the Johnson Family is through Elizabeth Johnson (b 1823). "The first Johnsons to come to Kentucky were three brothers, Thomas, Patrick, and William. About the year 1816, they came by way of Pound Gap, Virginia from the Yadkin River Valley to seek a new home. Some of them settled in Perry County and a grandson of Thomas, also named Thomas, built the first brick house there. Other Johnsons settled in Powell, Owsley, and Lee counties."1
